What A Tavern
About This Spot
Stepping into What A Tavern in Vero Beach feels like slipping into a familiar gathering spot where the hum of friendly chatter and the clink of cold glasses sets an easygoing rhythm. The space carries the warmth of old-school charm with a hint of laid-back coastal spirit, inviting both locals and visitors to unwind without fuss. It’s a place where time seems to slow just enough for good company and simple pleasures.
The atmosphere balances the lively energy of a classic sports bar with the comfortable pulse of a well-loved neighborhood hangout. Whether you’re sliding into a booth to catch a game on one of the many TVs or challenging friends to a game of pool, there’s a relaxed groove that welcomes both the fiercely competitive and those just in it for the shared laughter. Behind the bar, the attentive service feels genuine—the kind that anticipates your next drink or checks in to keep the mood easy and enjoyable.
Food here is a no-fuss extension of the experience. It’s about satisfying classic cravings that perfectly complement the cold beer in your hand or a well-earned break between games. From hearty, nostalgic bites like a chili cheese dog to fresh, crisp bites that balance the heavier fare, the menu quietly supports the evening’s flow without demanding center stage. And if you’re lucky enough to time it right, the casual end-of-day sun filtering through the windows makes the moment even sweeter.
What A Tavern quietly stands as a welcoming refuge for those who appreciate the uncomplicated joy of a well-crafted drink, friendly faces, and a space that feels like it’s been waiting just for you. It’s an inviting spot where the pace is unhurried, the crowd comfortably diverse, and the good vibes always easy to find.

The service, management, and atmosphere was spectacular! We live in south Melbourne Beach and are in IRC quite often for different reasons (North County Aquatic Center, garden centers, going to McKee as members particularly for the splash pad and current exhibits, Vero Art Museum, etc.) and are always looking for new places that can accommodate my wife's food allergies (anaphylactic reaction to shellfish, casein (dairy products), and tree nuts) whereby it can sometimes be hard to find a good place without an "eyeroll" or two. Additionally, it can be "trying" at best to travel with a toddler particularly one just shy of 2 and having energy to no end (mind you being a parent in the mid 40s doesn't help the situation)! Initially, we did not have high hopes as we had been to Coopers up the street in the past and were not impressed. We were greeted immediately by the bartender and owner and provided a menu. Simple, yes, but perfect, also yes! In a world where prices are going up, this menu was ideal with great prices and just the right options for lunch! My wife had a turkey sandwich, our toddler had a grilled cheese, and I had the grilled roast beef with horseradish! It was all phenomenal! The bartender, who is also the cook, was SUPER friendly and personable! Maybe its the fact that I grew up outside of Atlantic City where hole in the wall taverns are a dime a dozen, but it was a breath of fresh air to find a place like this in our "backyard"! If you go in with an open mind knowing that your lunch needs will be met at a decent price, you will certainly leave happy! Thank you What A Tavern and we will be back!

Best Sports bar in Vero. Great crowd. pool games, darts multiple TV's. Old school Vero vibe. Danny is attentive, brought me my water as soon as I was done. can't teach that anymore. God bless

What-A-Tavern is hands-down the best bar in Vero! Wall-to-wall TVs, cold drinks, and two pool tables to keep the fun going. Add in the boat slips out back and you’ve got the perfect spot to dock, drink, and chill. Always a great time here!

It’s a nice place to grab a drink. Service was great and everyone was nice. Nothing was going on so it was just a normal night and that worked for our little group. Great place overall!

Great local dive bar. Very LGBTQ+ friendly. The management is really working toward making this a safe space for everyone.
